The BAS program with a concentration in applied nutrition and health is specifically designed for students who have earned an AAS from a regionally accredited institution and who wish to further their education through a nutrition-focused bachelor's degree program.
Students gain practical knowledge and specialized skills necessary to promote health and wellness through nutrition within communities. Students aspiring to become registered dietitians may customize their experience to prepare for dietetics-focused graduate programs.
This program may be eligible for an Optional Practical Training extension for up to 36 months. This OPT work authorization term may help international students gain skills and experience in the U.S. Those interested in an OPT extension should review ASU degrees that qualify for the STEM-OPT extension at ASU's International Students and Scholars Center website.
The OPT extension only applies to students on an F-1 visa and does not apply to students completing the degree through ASU Online.

Students applying to this program must have completed an AAS degree. This program is not available to first-year students.
Only students who have completed an Associate of Applied Science degree are eligible to declare Bachelor of Applied Science majors at ASU.

Program learning outcomes identify what a student will learn or be able to do upon completion of their program. This program has the following program outcomes:
- Communicate evidence-based food and nutrition information and basic food science information in oral and written form.
- Develop a menu applying knowledge of food and nutrition and utilize leadership and communication skills working in the field.
- Apply the principles of food management and systems in the provision of food and nutrition services to individuals and organizations.
- Identify and explain improvements in a culinary workplace using the tenets of food safety.
Food is at the center of culture. Studying abroad helps students gain a deeper understanding of how food and culture intertwine, and they learn how to communicate nutritional and sanitary standards to a diverse audience.
Students' resumes are enhanced with the heightened communication, cultural competency and critical thinking skills they acquire through study abroad.
The College of Health Solutions recommends these study abroad programs for students majoring in applied nutrition and health.
Graduates are prepared for careers in food service management and marketing, nutrition education, nutrition and health communication, community nutrition and public health, and nutrition consulting. With additional education or professional training, graduates may also become credentialed as:
- certified dietary managers
- registered sanitarians
- school food service and nutrition specialists

3 year programs
These programs allow students to fast-track their studies after admission and earn a bachelor's degree in three years or fewer while participating in the same high-quality educational experience of a 4-year option. Students should talk to their academic advisor to get started.
Accelerated master's
These programs allow students to accelerate their studies to earn a bachelor's plus a master's degree in as few as five years (for some programs).
Each program has requirements students must meet to be eligible for consideration. Acceptance to the graduate program requires a separate application. Students typically receive approval to pursue the accelerated master’s during the junior year of their bachelor's degree program.
