Dental Laboratory Technicians

Summary This position is located in the Pinon Health Center, Dental Department, Pinon, AZ. The purpose of this position is to perform clinical Dental Hygiene Services consisting of subgingival scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance including prophylaxis and preventive measures and preventive dental procedures in the treatment of patients with periodontal disease and severe dental caries and treatment of of medically compromised patients. Responsibilities Administers dental hygiene treatment consisting of periodontal charting, subgingival scaling and root planing, polishing, prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance to patients presenting a variety of abnormal conditions. Administers local anesthesia and local periodontal medicaments as permitted by respective state licensure under the general supervision of a dentist. Records medical and dental history, reviews patients' dietary habits and provides oral hygiene instructions and counseling. Administers caries prevention agents, desensitizes root surfaces, root surfaces, remove sutures and places ITR's and sealants as allowable by respective state licensure. Develops and revises oral health instructional materials and education techniques for various patient groups. Plans, coordinates and conducts preventive oral health programs for various patient groups. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must pass pre-employment examination. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Licensure: Applicants must be currently licensed to practice as dental hygienists in a State or territory of the United States or the District of Columbia. NOTE: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiologic procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation, and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and (2) be certified as radiographers in their field. The following meet these requirements: (1) Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a doctor of medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiologic procedures to others. (2) Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiologic personnel after the effective date of the regulation who (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a licensure examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided that such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence as determined by OPM or the employing agency. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: GS-07 - Performing advanced oral prophylactic, therapeutic and preventive procedures in cases of periodontal diseases or inflammation or on patients with other medical or dental problems. GS-08 - Examine and assess patients, determine if systemic conditions are present and plan treatments; independently and without direct observation perform oral prophylaxis and provide therapeutic care, perform deep scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage, place temporary fillings and administer local anesthesia, place and remove rubber dams and apply sealant; provide oral health education services to individuals and groups; take, develop and interpret intraoral and extraoral x-rays; outreach to community schools and teaching groups of people about oral hygiene. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Chewy is seeking a **Certified Industrial Hygienist** (CIH) to support the Core, Rx, and Chewy Vet Care Network. The CIH will be responsible to partner with operations, engineering, legal, and Human Resources teams to oversee and implement industrial hygiene programs across the organization. They will ensure compliance with regulatory standards, develop safety protocols, and provide training and guidance to Team Members. What you’ll do:

+ Develop and implement industrial hygiene policies, programs, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.

+ Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards related to zoonotic diseases, pharmaceuticals, and ergonomic factors.

+ Analyze work processes, equipment, and chemical usage to determine potential health and safety risks.

+ Implement control measures to minimize exposure to hazardous substances, including the development of protocols for safe handling and disposal.

+ Advise on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its availability and proper usage while conducting assessments and audits.

+ Monitor and assess air quality within practices and facilities, ensuring adequate ventilation systems are in place.

+ Recommend improvements to ventilation systems to minimize exposure to airborne contaminants.

+ Evaluate noise levels in the workplace and recommend measures to reduce occupational noise exposure.

+ Conduct ergonomic assessments to identify and address physical stressors and recommend ergonomic solutions.

+ Develop and implement hygiene protocols for Team Members to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases.

+ Educate Team Members on the risks associated with specific tasks and the importance of adherence to safety protocols.

+ Collaborate with Operations, Veterinary, and Pharmacy (Rx) Leadership to integrate safety measures into daily operations.

+ Stay up to date with regulatory requirements, emerging technologies related to occupational health and safety, and recommend necessary updates to policies and procedures.

+ Maintain records and documentation related to occupational health and safety activities, including training, inspections, incidents, and inventory of equipment.

+ Coordinate external audits or inspections related to industrial hygiene and ensure timely completion of any corrective actions required.

+ Serve as a resource and point of contact for Team Members, leadership, and regulatory agencies regarding industrial hygiene safety matters.

What you’ll need:

+ Bachelor’s degree in industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.

+ Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a must requirement.

+ A minimum of 15 years of experience in industrial hygiene, preferably in a warehousing, corporate, and medical practice setting.

+ Strong knowledge of industrial hygiene regulations, standards, and best practices, including familiarity with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

+ Comprehension, program creation, and practical application of: Combustible dust sampling, pharmaceutical dust sampling.

+ Possess thorough understanding and knowledge of: 503b compounding pharmacy operations, lab equipment, air sampling, and cabinet certification.

+ Possess thorough understanding of NFPA 654, USP 800, 796, and 795.

+ Ability to analyze drawings to mitigate future risk in complex operations.

+ Possess a thorough understanding of world class manufacturing practices in a pharmaceutical operation.

+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office.

+ Experience in developing and implementing radiation safety programs.

+ Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.

+ Experience leading change in multiple practice environments.

+ Must be willing to travel up to 75%.

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

+ Graduation from an ADA accredited school of dental hygiene

+ High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution

+ Valid and active Arizona license to practice oral hygiene

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES

+ Ability to work in compliance with the Adelante Healthcare Integrated Care Model, which includes working in a pediatric setting, screening infants, toddlers, and children

+ Provide clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols

+ Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care. Assist in the oral health management of all clinic patients

+ Perform independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Department protocol and directives

+ Record patient-hygienist transactions in the patient’s dental record as they occur to assure the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient, and the care or treatment provided

+ Provide oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for all center dental patients. Organize and perform preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations

+ Provide technical assistance and health education in the community as requested

+ Integrate appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management

+ Assist in the maintenance of all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directive and policies as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues

+ Ensure the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and center policy as well as state and federal regulations, and ensure compliance with the Health Center’s Exposure Control Plan

+ Assist with various clinical and administrative functions of the health center as appropriate

+ Ability to travel between health center sites when necessary to meet operational needs

Our salary range for this position, based on the market data, is $90k to $115k per annum (range varies depending on experience and qualifications).

Key responsibilities:

+ Supervise and/or conduct the collection, transportation, segregation, and manifestation of hazardous wastes/materials.

+ Develop, implement, and assess policies and procedures for waste management, renewable energy, recycling, and pollution reduction and prevention.

+ Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, to convey safety information and procedures to staff.

+ Follow and apply OSHA regulations, NFPA Fire Codes, and relevant standards in practical situations.

+ Maintain and update databases and written/electronic logs and records pertaining to safety and environmental management.

+ Ensure proper use of protective clothing and gear in various circumstances.

+ Prioritize customer service, treating VA customers courteously, tactfully, and respectfully.

+ Safeguard physical keys and electronic cards for secure facility access.

+ Conduct quantitative and qualitative respiratory fit testing and provide training on respiratory protection devices.

+ Conduct surveys and collect samples to identify hazardous conditions (e.g., noise dosimetry testing, mold surveys, air quality surveys).

+ Evaluate workplaces for potential occupational hazards and implement control measures.

+ Complete VA-directed training for handling hazardous materials and waste.

+ Maintain records and documents related to industrial hygiene and environmental management activities.

+ Assist with various safety-related activities under the supervision of a government-provided subject matter expert, including Occupational Safety and Health, Life Safety, Fire Safety, Construction Safety, and Emergency Management.

+ Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

Qualifications to be successful in the role:

+ Preferably a Certified Industrial Hygienist.

+ High School Diploma or equivalent with training, certification, experience, or coursework in Industrial Hygiene.

+ Experience in green environmental management activities highly desirable.

+ Has a valid California Non-Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 30 days.

+ Ability to perform physically demanding tasks and work in various environmental conditions.

+ Ability to work in diverse environments, including cramped, noisy, and extreme weather conditions.

+ Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

+ Familiarity with OSHA regulations, NFPA Fire Codes, and relevant safety standards.

+ Familiarity with confined space regulations and procedures for entry into confined spaces.

+ Ability to pass a background/clearance investigation.

+ Commitment to environmental sustainability and safety.

+ Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Affiliated Practice Dental Hygienist performs professional dental care in the field of dental hygiene including all related clinical procedures. The dental hygienist will assist the doctor in promoting dental health by completing dental prophylaxis; providing oral cancer screening; radiographic studies; charting conditions of decay and disease; and performing procedures in compliance with the dental practices. Qualifications

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

+ Graduation from an ADA accredited school of dental hygiene

+ High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution

+ Valid and active Arizona license to practice oral hygiene

+ Must comply with requirements to obtain and maintain active Affiliated Practice Dental Hygienist relationship, including: must be actively engaged in dental hygiene practice for at least five-hundred (500) hours in each of the two (2) years immediately preceding the affiliated practice relationship; must complete an additional twelve (12) hours of continuing education related to the initial credentialing of the practice agreement; must establish an Affiliated Practice Relationship with an Affiliated Dentist within Adelante Healthcare

+ Demonstrated understanding of dental procedures and techniques

+ Excellent interpersonal and written communications skills required

+ Ability to perform assignments requiring considerable exercise of independent judgement

+ Proficiency in use of computers and various applications such as Microsoft Office Suite

+ Comfort in engaging with people of various cultures and backgrounds

+ Certification to perform cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for the Health Care Professional (CPR) and AED through courses that follow the guidelines from the American Heart Association and Red Cross (cognitive and skills evaluations) or ACLS

+ Valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card issued by the Arizona Department of Public Safety for all specialty behavioral health locations

+ Valid and active Arizona Driver License or other valid government issued identification

POSITION REPONSIBILITIES

+ Responsible for personal compliance with all applicable federal, state, local and health center rules, regulations, protocols and procedures governing the practice of dental hygiene and the clinical provision of dental hygiene services as well as those related but not limited to, personnel issues, workplace safety, public health, and confidentiality

+ Ability to work in compliance with the Adelante Healthcare Integrated Care Model, which includes working in a pediatric setting, screening infants, toddlers, and children

+ Provide clinical oral hygiene services including dental prophylaxis, scaling, sealant application and fluoride application consistent with accepted professional practices and standards and in compliance with applicable state law and the center’s clinical protocols

+ Obtain baseline oral hygiene assessment data based upon accepted principles of oral hygiene and periodontal care. Assist in the oral health management of all clinic patients

+ Perform independent procedures as delegated and directed by a dentist in accordance with state regulations and law as well as Dental Department protocol and directives

+ Record patient-hygienist transactions in the patient’s dental record as they occur to assure the dental record accurately and completely reflects the nature of the contact, the condition of the patient, and the care or treatment provided

+ Provide oral health education and appropriate individual counseling for all center dental patients. Organize and perform preventive oral health presentations at on-site and off-site locations

+ Provide technical assistance and health education in the community as requested

+ Integrate appropriate patient dental hygiene care with other health care professionals involved in the patient’s health care management

+ Assist in the maintenance of all Dental Department areas in compliance with Dental Department directive and policies as well as center policies and procedures relative to infection control, exposure control and safety issues

+ Ensure the proper disposal of all contaminated or potentially contaminated materials in accordance with Dental Department directive and center policy as well as state and federal regulations, and ensure compliance with the Health Center’s Exposure Control Plan

+ Assist with various clinical and administrative functions of the health center as appropriate

+ Ability to travel between health center sites when necessary to meet operational needs

NONESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

+ Three (3) years or more of experience in community health

+ Bilingual in English/Spanish a plus
