    Summary This position is located in the Pinon Health Center, Dental Department, Pinon, AZ. The purpose of this position is to perform clinical Dental Hygiene Services consisting of subgingival scaling and root planing, periodontal maintenance including prophylaxis and preventive measures and preventive dental procedures in the treatment of patients with periodontal disease and severe dental caries and treatment of of medically compromised patients. Responsibilities Administers dental hygiene treatment consisting of periodontal charting, subgingival scaling and root planing, polishing, prophylaxis and periodontal maintenance to patients presenting a variety of abnormal conditions. Administers local anesthesia and local periodontal medicaments as permitted by respective state licensure under the general supervision of a dentist. Records medical and dental history, reviews patients' dietary habits and provides oral hygiene instructions and counseling. Administers caries prevention agents, desensitizes root surfaces, root surfaces, remove sutures and places ITR's and sealants as allowable by respective state licensure. Develops and revises oral health instructional materials and education techniques for various patient groups. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
