The Department of Economic Security, Division of Developmental Disabilities (DDD), is seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Vehicle Repair Technician. DDD provides individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families, services and supports that are flexible, high quality, and member driven. These services provide individuals with opportunities to exercise their rights and responsibilities of independent decision-making and engagement in the community. Vehicle Repair Technician are responsible for assuring that all vehicles and equipment are in safe, operational condition. In addition to ensuring the workshop area is maintained and remains a safe working environment at all times.

Applicants for this position cannot be licensed or certified by the DDD Office of Licensing Certification and Regulation, cannot have a principal interest in or have a spouse or close family with principal interest in a DDD Qualified Vendor Agreement, and cannot be employed or subcontracted by a DDD Qualified Vendor.

Job Duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Maintain and oversee DES/ATPC motor pool vehicle fleet of approximately 50 vehicles and equipment to include sedans and mini vans, adaptive transport vehicles, pick up trucks, utility trailers, farm tractors, gas, and electrical utility vehicles, and riding lawn mowers. Assure all vehicles and equipment are in safe, operational condition.
• Perform mechanical inspections on a variety of automotive, utility vehicles, and equipment in accordance with manufacture safety and scheduled preventative maintenance procedures.
• Service and repair DES assigned automotive vehicles, utility vehicles, and other rolling stock equipment on-site utilizing tools and equipment available to include but not limited to complete brake repairs, air-conditioning repairs, oil and lube changes, filter changes, and repair flat tires. Outsource vehicle repairs that are beyond the ATPC Motor Pool shop capabilities to ADOT.
• Request price quotes from authorized state vendors. Order replacement parts as required to maintain the fleet of vehicles. Assure sufficient stock levels of oil and air filters, lubricants, and other items necessary to perform preventative maintenance are kept on hand at all times.
• Perform inspections on vehicles being returned to the motor pool for cleanliness. Ensure vehicles are washed periodically or as needed or determined by conditions. Perform proper housekeeping in workshop area to assure a safe working environment at all times.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
Knowledge in:
• Power/drive train systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures
• Electrical systems and inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures
• Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures
• Computerized diagnostic analyzer use procedures and practices
• Operating principals of gasoline and diesel-powered internal combustion engines
• Maintenance shop safety principles and practices
• Record keeping principles and practices

Skills In:
• Repairing and maintaining light trucks and vehicles electrical and electronic systems
• Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment
• Estimating cost of repair and maintenance work
• Outsourcing to include scheduling / coordinating automotive service and repairs to maximize utilization

Ability to:
• Follow oral and written instructions
• Interpret and understand repair manuals and service bulletins
• Communicate and articulate effectively at all levels
• Use computer programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Microsoft Office, etc.)
• Manage time effectively

Selective Preference(s):
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
• Minimum of 4 years of journey level experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of light automotive vehicles and equipment OR
• Education / training in a certified / accredited auto/heavy duty equipment repair school substitutes on a month-for-month basis for up to 2 years’ experience OR
• Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or vehicle manufacture’s certification in at least 6 automotive repair fields

Pre-Employment Requirements:
• If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job to conduct State business, then the following requirements apply: Driver’s License Requirements. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver's license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver's license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to Driver's license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operated a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) (R2-10-201.11).
• Successfully pass background and reference check; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the Agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• Employee shall have a valid Level One fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to Arizona Revised Statute 41-2758.07 in order to work with children and vulnerable adults.
• Candidates for this position shall be subject to a search of both the Department of Child Safety Central Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 8-804 and the Adult Protective Services Registry pursuant to A.R.S. 46-459.
• All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Retirement:
State employees are required to participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS), the State sponsored retirement contribution plan and the Long-Term Disability (LTD) program after a 27-week waiting period. The ASRS defined benefit plan provides for life-long income upon retirement. You will also have the option to participate in a voluntary deferred compensation program to take advantage of tax-deferred retirement investments.
