The Technician provides services for the Phoenix VA Health Care System, and the Community Based Outpatient Clinics. The incumbent collaborates with the Dentist to select materials, design, and fabricate the final protheses, or corrective devices required for patients. The Technician works with complex removable, fixed oral-maxillofacial prosthesis, and removable implants. Responsibilities The Dental Laboratory Technician works closely with the Oral Surgeon, and Prosthodontist to design, and create complex dental, or intra-oral maxillofacial prosthesis. The Dental Specialist provides the Technician the prescription, and placement of the final prostheses, or corrective devices. The major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Sets up and contour artificial teeth. Fabricates dental obturators, impression trays, master casts, framework, and metal parts. Studies master cast to identify undercuts and teeth for retention of dentures. Identifies number, and location of missing teeth, for denture design, not pre-indicated by the Dentist. Constructs acrylic crowns, bridges, or facings involving forming, and carving wax patterns. Construct's stone, amalgam, or electro-formed copper dies through mixing, and pouring material, and processing poured impression. Fabricates porcelain crowns, fixed partial dentures, involving platinum foil matrix. Fabricates fluoride trays, removable orthotics for bruxism, sleep apnea and/or radiation purpose. Provides education, training, and instruction, to dental staff regarding fabrication of prostheses. Plans, and conducts classroom, and laboratory instruction for dental clinicians, dental laboratory staff, and auxiliary dental personnel. Performs daily operations to include supply, and equipment procurement, case input, and tracking, organization, general preventative maintenance, and bio-medical engineering requests.     POSITION SUMMARY

    This position performs waived and non-waived tests as defined by CLIA ‘88 in an accurate and timely manner with supervision. Assists with department compliance with all pertinent laboratory accrediting agencies and regulatory requirements (e.g., CLIA ’88, JCAHO, CAP, OSHA). Personnel report to department supervisor.

    CORE FUNCTIONS

    4. Self-directed and motivated to contribute to projects identified by the supervisor, with the completion of a minimum of one project per year. Performs well in supervisor’s absence and provides guidance on issues relating to pre-analytical, waived and non-waived testing. Completes training module for newly hired/transferred personnel.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    + Associate’s Degree in medical laboratory science, OR

    + Bachelor's Degree in chemical, physical or biological science, OR

    + Have successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist. Military must be a high school graduate or equivalent.

    + Basic Computer skills.

    + Students may be hired at the job title equivalent to their future certification under the following conditions: Student is enrolled in a clinically recognized program (MLT), student’s clinical rotation in the core area must be completed prior to working in that core area and student must complete the MLT program within one year of hire.

    **POSITION SUMMARY**

    This position may be located within a Hospital facility, Patient Service Center, IOP, or Long Term Care Department. This position is responsible for the collection and receipt of biological specimens into the department, their proper entry into the company’s computer system, the preparation of samples for analytical testing and/or the distribution of these specimens to the proper analytical area.     **CORE FUNCTIONS**

    1. To include the following: 1) specimen collection 2) general laboratory specimen processing or 3) referral laboratory processing. In doing so, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques for all age criteria as required. Only staff with a high school diploma or GED may perform any specified analytical testing, i.e. Point of Care testing.

    2. Enters and verifies patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, appropriate clinical information, and all other pertinent data found on requisitions as required for processing and billing. Verifies accuracy of entered information. Verifies appropriateness of specimens received. Aliquots and labels specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, delivers specimens to the technical area in a timely manner and / or performs initial processing and preparation of samples for transport. Performs “Triage” process as needed within Patient Service Centers. Level II will assist lead in monitoring workflow and training of new employees

    3. Focuses on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Completes documents legibly and accurately per site protocol. Follows established methods and practices. Maintains familiarity with departmental procedures. Uses appropriate documentation to record communications. Communicate courteously and professionally and responds accordingly. Initiates computer generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Meets departmental standards for productivity and quality as currently defined. Level II will have knowledge of more computer functions, i.e. A.R.E. Actively participates in input to dept/system via committees or Six Sigma teams.     **Description**

    Under supervision, performs routine analytical tasks in an oil analysis lab.

    + Performs routine oil analysis testing, including operation of lab equipment and utilization of current LIMS.

    + Prepares samples for analysis using appropriate techniques and performs sample preparation for quality control program.

    + Maintains laboratory instrumentation and equipment.

    **Qualifications**
