Summary:

Operates various conventional and/or numerically controlled machining centers on the most complex and difficult jobs. Works from blueprints, sketches, planning sheets, verbal instructions, and/or engineering, tooling, or equipment information. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• May run multiple machines efficiently, which may require simultaneous operations. Adapts or improvises tooling to accomplish results where operations require a broad knowledge of production machining technology, operating skills, and shop techniques together with diversified experience.

• Sets up, adjusts, and operates a variety of conventional and/or special purpose CNC Lathe machines to perform the most diversified and difficult production operations on work having close and exact tolerances, several dimensional relationships, unusual contours, dimensional and finish requirements.

• Interprets customer requirements from blueprints, complex drawings, engineering specifications, quality directives, charts, tables, sketches, and verbal instructions.

• Interfaces with engineering to resolve drawing errors, suggest design changes, and solve product/process problems.

• Implements manufacturing methods using standard production machines, materials, and tooling.

• Develops and defines processes with limited documentation, as required.

• Troubleshoots and resolves machining problems.

• Responsible for machining and checking parts to maintain a high level of quality and efficiency.

• Inspects finished parts for conformance to specifications by visual examination, and utilizes precision measuring instruments such as gages, calipers, micrometers, comparators, and surface plate techniques. May be required to use coordinate measuring machine (CMM). Ensures equipment is calibrated in accordance with schedule.

• Routinely maintains equipment to ensure cleanliness, accuracy, and reliability specific to division requirements.

• Accurately and regularly performs statistical process control (SPC) specific to division requirements.

• Uses advanced shop mathematics, which may include trigonometry, and general knowledge of metal characteristics and other processing requirements.

• Actively contributes to lean initiatives by identifying and providing suggestions on areas for improvement. Effectively applies lean concepts and tools in work area.

Job Purpose

Create 3, 4, and 5 axis programs (from Customer drawings and CAD files) for CNC mills and lathes, using CAM software, while meeting MCAM quality requirements. • Write 3, 4, and 5 axis programs with Horizontal & 5th axis pallet changers and Robotics Programming is a plus.

• Create user friendly programs for minimally skilled operators, with focus on ease of use

• Troubleshoot and edit programs at machines as required

• Provide tooling and fixturing recommendations as applicable

• Maintain electronic files for all programs

+ Loads, unloads, stops, and starts manual and or CNC machines.

+ Performs repeat setups. Listens to machine during operation in order to detect sounds such as those made by dull (in need of dressing) grinding wheels.

+ Measures dimensions of finished pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments and fixtures.

+ Select and mount grinding wheels on machines, according to specifications, using hand tools and applying knowledge of abrasives and grinding procedures.

+ Dress grinding wheels according to specifications.

Required Skills/Abilities:

+ Must be able to operate various type of type of machines such as surface grinders, CNC grinding machines and or manual grinding machines as well as their maintenance.

+ Must have experience on the following:

Walter Helitronic Power 400 w/loader and wheel changer (x3), Walter Heli check, Vacuum Brazing machine, (Pin Power), Max-Engineering Wheel dresser, Monosets, Surface grinder

+ Knowledge of blueprint reading calipers, micrometers, and basic trigonometry or math skills is a must. Ability to use math to solve problems. Knowledge of GDT.

Education and Experience:

+ High School Diploma or Equivalent.

+ A minimum 1-3 years of experience working with various metals.
