We have a strong foundation of action to build upon, but we know we must do more. Institutional racism, systemic injustice, racial inequality, and police brutality against the Black community—today, yesterday, and throughout centuries past—cannot and must not continue. The outrage and grief we are all expressing over the callous and unjust deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and so many others, lay bare the daily injustices borne by the Black community and force us to reckon with a broken system that continues to oppress. Since opening our doors more than 60 years ago, we have worked to foster environments where all individuals feel welcome in our hotels. Inclusion and diversity are at the core of our purpose—to care for people so they can be their best—so we must be deeply involved in actions that fight racial injustice and inequality. As a company that stands with the Black community and with all people who suffer from discrimination and prejudice, we continue to uphold our vision of a world of understanding and care through our words and actions—but even more importantly, we call upon ourselves to do better and be better. We support communities around the world through volunteerism and charitable giving from our company, colleagues, owners and guests, as well as through the Hyatt Hotels Foundation. In addition to year-round volunteerism, our collective impact is magnified during our Global Month of Service, when Hyatt colleagues around the world give back locally. Our giving supports education, career readiness, wellbeing and environmental conservation projects. When disasters strike in communities where we operate, we help those communities and colleagues to recover, rebuild and thrive again. We team up with the American Red Cross and Mercy Corps to respond quickly and deliver financial assistance, while internal fundraising provides additional support to colleagues when possible. Hyatt’s headquarters and more than 20 Hyatt hotels are located in the Chicago area and we take great pride in our hometown. Since 2015, Hyatt has two adopted schools in the Back of the Yards community, a low-income, at-risk neighborhood, and supports them through school supplies and holiday gift drives, career workshops, job shadow days and other fundraising projects. Hyatt also provide internships, mentoring, tutoring, career readiness workshops and employment opportunities to young adults across Chicago. Through partnerships with organizations including Year Up Chicago, Salt & Light Coalition, Skills for Chicagoland’s Future, City Year Chicago, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Chicago, Chicago Urban League and Urban Alliance.
