Summary The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a support staff responsible for the prioritizing of tasks assigned under the supervision of licensed professional nursing staff utilizing universal precautions and ensuring a safe, clean and orderly environment conductive to the delivery of quality nursing care in the Adult Care Unit (ACU). This position is located at the CCHCF, Division of Clinical Services, Inpatient Unit, Chinle, AZ. Responsibilities Provide basic nursing care to assigned patients. Assist with admitting and discharging patients. Collect and provide care of specimens. Maintain clinical records. Perform general maintenance duties (cleaning, arranging, restocking, sorting, etc.) Participate in performance improvement program. NOTE: This position is being announced concurrently with announcement IHS-24-CH-12188136-ESEP/MP for candidates at the GS-05 grade level. Qualifications To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-03 - 6 months of general experience. Education: 1 year above high school with courses directly related to the position. Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for positions at the GS-04 - Completed 26 weeks of general experience and 26 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-03 grade level to qualify - performing a variety of nonprofessional nursing care and diagnostic support duties in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility. Education: 2 years above high school with course directly related to the position. General Experience: (l) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized Experience (for positions at GS-4 and above): Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Qualifying specialized experience includes nonprofessional nursing care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing, or patient care facility, or in such work as that of a home health aid performing duties such as: Providing personal nursing care such as providing pre- and post-operative care. Support duties for diagnostic and technical treatment procedures, such as setting up and operating special medical equipment and apparatus. Caring for mentally ill patients, including observing, recording, and reporting changes in their behavior, and providing reassurance and encouragement. Assisting surgeons and registered nurses in operating room activities, including passing instruments, maintaining sterile conditions, and draping and positioning patients. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Education This position has an education requirement. You are strongly encouraged to submit a copy of your transcripts or a list of your courses including titles, credit hours completed, and grades. Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. This position is covered by a Bargaining Unit. This position meets the criteria specified in pillar number one of the five pillars of the PHS Commissioned Corps.
