Police Aide - Part-Time Temporary

Part-Time/Temporary Position (not eligible for benefits)
19 Hours/Week
Pay Range: $12.50 to $16.02 per hour DOE/Q
New employees usually start at beginning level of pay range.
FLSA Status: Non-exempt – eligible for overtime
Requirements:

Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license in good standing and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.Must be able to pass pre-employment drug test and criminal background check. High School diploma or the equivalent required.

This position is designed to be filled by an individual striving to be a Prescott Police Officer. The Police Aide selected for this position will be evaluated for suitability of hiring as a Police Recruit when this position becomes available. Prescott Police Department Staff will recommend termination of the Police Aide if determination is made they will not be suitable for a Police Recruit position. Individuals applying for this position must be at least 20 years of age at the time of application so they meet the AZ POST age requirements for entry into the Police Academy. Applicants will be required to obtain satisfactory scores on the same written, physical and interview tests required of Police Recruit applicants.

Tasks:

Answers routine inquiries and makes proper disposition or directs them to proper authorities;
Accurately enters data or other information obtained from various areas for use in reporting;
Opens, sorts, files and routes mail, products, materials, and other paperwork;
Logs information received from telephone;
Maintains forms and supply inventory at police facilities and distributes supplies, equipment and forms to Police Officers as requested;
Drives police vehicles between the maintenance shop and police briefing stations;
Indexes, codes, alphabetizes and files a variety of records;
Consults with supervisor regarding non-routine matters.
Transports reports and other paperwork to division headquarters;
Maintains regular and reliable attendance in a self-directed environment;
Demonstrates superior seamless customer service, integrity, and commitment to innovation, efficiency, and fiscally responsible activity;
Work with Police Officers and City employees investigating various crimes and other activity.
Knowledge, Skills, or ability to learn and implement into daily tasks:

Modern office practices and equipment;
Customer service principles and techniques;
Clerical procedures (i.e., indexing, coding and alphabetizing) and systems such as managing files and records, answering phones, operating office equipment, typing business correspondence and other documents, and other office procedures and terminology.
Ability to:

Handle difficult customers on a daily basis while maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information;
Work cooperatively with the public and other City employees;
Communicate in English with the public by phone or in person in a one-to-one setting;
Multi-task and function in a fast-paced and stressful environment;
Comprehend and make inferences from material written in English and learn job-related material through observation, written and oral instructions;
Operate computer input devices (keyboard, mouse) and other office equipment;
Operate personal or City vehicle on City business;
Learn the geography and streets of the City of Prescott and surrounding areas.
Physical and Visual Ability: sufficient to effectively and safely perform required duties and to safely operate required equipment and city vehicle as needed. Must be able to remain in a seated position for extended periods of time and be able to lift up to 20 pounds.

Hearing, Speaking & Cognitive Ability: sufficient to clearly, concisely and effectively communicate in person and over the telephone. Applicant must be free from mental disorders that would interfere with performance of duties as described.
