Job Summary:
HVAC Start Up Techs are HVAC contractors responsible for ensuring that all safety and compliance standards are met and to provide technical assistance when necessary. Start up techs must follow and comply with EPA, DMV, State and local building codes when they service these systems. In addition to verifying a home's HVAC system meets code and is installed to blueprint, start up techs may also verify builder schedules, utilize electronic equipment for planning and installation tasks.
HVAC Start Up/ Maintenance Technician Responsibilities:
• Inspect, repair, modify and install HVAC equipment including refrigeration and air conditioning filters, condensers, chillers, water cooling towers, forced air converter units, pumps, automatic and hand valves, expansion valves.
• Conduct regular preventive maintenance inspections of gas and electrically operated air conditioning equipment, and make necessary adjustments.
• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, welder torch, vacuum pump, test equipment utilized in the trade and a motor vehicle; maintain equipment in effective and safe working condition; maintain parts and tool inventory.
• Inspect and calibrate systems; repair pipes and tubing as necessary; test joints and insulate pipes of refrigeration and air conditioning systems; descale tubing; rebuild/replace pressure and temperature safety valves.
• Install, rebuild, replace or repair fans, motors, thermostats, filters, valves, controls, gaskets and other equipment as necessary.
• Maintain related records concerning time, labor and materials; maintain log of tasks performed and write reports as required.
Knowledge, Skill and Experience: Minimum Requirements:
• EPA certification
• Completion of HVAC apprenticeship.
• Min 1yr Experience working as a Start up tech.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license.
• HVAC system blueprints and installation knowledge.
