About the Department/College
The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) Program at NAU is housed within the Department of Physical Therapy and Athletic Training in the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS). The DPT Program offers one hybrid and two residential Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs—one at the Phoenix Bioscience Core (PBC) and the other on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus.
As part of NAU's New Economy Initiative, the DPT Program plays a crucial role in educating future physical therapists who will address health disparities in Arizona and beyond. Program members collaborate with community, clinical, and academic partners to break down barriers and increase access to physical therapy education, ensuring a well-prepared workforce for the evolving healthcare landscape.
About the Position
The NAU Doctor of Physical Therapy Program is at the forefront of Competency and Entrustment-Based Education (CEBE), a progressive approach designed to meet the diverse and evolving healthcare needs of society. This model integrates learning outcomes and assessments across didactic and clinical education, ensuring graduates are fully prepared for the complexities of contemporary physical therapy practice.
The DPT Program seeks a highly motivated and innovative faculty member who embraces this CEBE paradigm shift and is adept at utilizing technology to enhance health professions education. With a specialized faculty team, we welcome applications from candidates with expertise across all primary areas of physical therapy practice. Primary position location can be either Flagstaff Mountain Campus or Phoenix Bioscience Core.
This is a 12-month, non-tenure track faculty position located in our Hybrid DPT program. This position will be taught as a hybrid position which requires the incumbent to travel/teach at both an NAU site, campus, or facility and at a non-centralized site with or without accommodation. Travel to Flagstaff or Phoenix (PBC) will be required.
Responsibilities Include:
• Design, deliver, and assess engaging, evidence-based course content within a Competency and Entrustment-Based Education framework
• Participate in program assessment, accreditation activities, and continuous quality improvement processes
• Attend program, department, college, and university meetings and serve on assigned committees
• Engage in university and professional service
• Develop a scholarly agenda
• Remain current with professional advancements and integrate relevant developments into teaching and scholarship
• Support and promote the mission and vision of the institution and the physical therapy department

Minimum Qualifications
For Assistant Clinical Professor:
• Eligible for licensure as a physical therapist in Arizona
• Entry-level doctoral degree in physical therapy (DPT) from an accredited institution
• Minimum of three years of full-time post-licensure clinical practice experience
• Experience participating in clinical education within physical therapy practice or academic settings
• Contemporary expertise that represents knowledge and skills reflective of current physical therapist practice and healthcare systems
• Defined area of scholarship
Preferred Qualifications
• Advanced clinical specialty certification
• Academic doctoral degree (i.e. PhD, EdD, DSc) from an accredited institution in a field related to physical therapy
Compensation & Benefits
Commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election. The long-term disability plan that accompanies the ORP will begin on the first day of the pay period following election.
