**Purpose**
The Substation Designer supports the development of electrical substations by preparing design drawings and technical documentation for high-voltage power delivery projects. Working under the direction of engineers and project managers, the Designer plays a critical role in ensuring constructible and code-compliant substation layouts. This role is essential to delivering accurate and efficient plans for EPC and utility clients.
**Responsibilities**
**Leadership and Direction**
+ Take ownership of assigned drafting tasks from concept through final design.
+ Maintain drawing standards and support junior drafters with best practices
**At the Operational and Company Level**
+ Collaborate with electrical engineers, civil/structural teams, and project managers to develop substation physical layouts, grounding, and conduit plans.
+ Ensure design documents comply with client standards, safety requirements, and applicable codes.
+ Maintain organized drawing sets and records in accordance with Bowman and client procedures.
**Do the Work**
+ Prepare detailed physical layout drawings for substation equipment (e.g., transformers, circuit breakers, busywork, steel structures).
+ Draft grounding, conduit, lighting, fencing, and control house plans using AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other industry-standard software.
+ Revise drawings based on redlines or design updates from the engineering team.
+ Support bill of materials (BOM) creation, as-built drawing packages, and drawing transmittals.
+ Participate in site visits and field investigations to support layout accuracy.

**Qualifications**
+ High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certificate in drafting preferred but not required.
+ Three or more (3+) years of substation or electrical utility drafting/design experience.
+ Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, or MicroStation required.
+ Experience with PLS-CADD, Revit, or other 3D design tools a plus.
+ Knowledge of electrical equipment, site layout planning, and utility substation standards preferred.

Salary and eligible variable compensation (if any) commensurate with experience. Range $95,000 - $125,000 and includes a comprehensive benefits package.

**Physical Demands and Working Environment**

+ Occasional travel for site and client visits.

+ Mobility around a job/construction site to include walking, bending, crawling, climbing, use of ladders, squatting, or kneeling and wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including occasional survey on elevated surfaces and roofs.
